Copenhagen University hospital, Rigshospitalet (RH), is a regional hospital for 1 million inhabitants and a hospital of reference for all types of highly specialized treatments in Denmark, Faeroe Islands and Greenland, totally 5.5 million inhabitants.

The hospital has a strong scientific profile with extensive national, EU and other international relations. Presently the hospital is active partner of 25 EU projects. The main clinical and related scientific work will be done by the Department of Intensive Care in the Abdominal Centre and the Hyperbaric Unit of the Department of Anaesthesia in the Centre for Head and Orthopaedics. The Department of Intensive Care has a study unit on the pathophysiology of sepsis, inflammation and cerebral autoregulation in sepsis, as well as studies on muscle loss and mitochondrial function during sepsis. The unit has a leading part in the multinational study ”New resuscitation strategies in severe sepsis”.
Rigshospitalet is responsible for WP2.
